Geographical Location

Jagstzell lies in the natural area Swabian- Franconian Forest in the wooded landscape of the Virngrunds both sides of the Jagst. The community area is between 409-516 m above sea level. NN.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Frankenhardt, Stimpfach and Fichtenau, all belonging to the district of Schwäbisch Hall. To the east lies Ellenberg, to the south and west of the city Ellwangen Rosenberg.

History

Jagstzell was probably by monks of the monastery Ellwangen as a small monastic establishment ( cella ) founded the Carolingian period. Around the year 1150 the monastery was converted into a convent, which existed about 200 years. Not much is narrated from the history of the monastery, it was first mentioned in the year 1170. After dissolution of the convent, the village came to the prince provost Ellwangen. Since the beginning of the 16th century, Brandenburg -Ansbach and thus later Prussia rights Jagstzell had. The Ellwanger part of Württemberg in 1802, the Prussian part came in 1806 in Bavaria, and in 1810 finally Württemberg. There Jagstzell first belonged to the upper office Ellwangen, from 1938 to the district Aalen, who came up through the district reform in 1973 in the new Ostalb.

Religion

In Jagstzell are now represented by the Roman Catholic St. Vitus Church and the Protestant Christ church of the parish Rechenberg both denominations. The parish Jagstzell belonged in the Middle Ages to the diocese of Würzburg, while the more southern parts of the Ellwanger dominion belonged to the diocese of Augsburg.

The municipality is a member of the Agreed administrative community of the city Ellwangen.

Parish council

Mayor since 1997 Raimund Müller. Previously Wilfried Herrmann was mayor since 1973, as the successor of Otto Lechner.

Structures

The Catholic parish church of St. Vitus was built in 1498 in late gothic style and 1747 in Baroque style. In the district Dankoltsweiler St. Barbara's chapel from the 14th century. She has a beautiful late Gothic vaulting in the choir. The Romanesque chapel of St. Nicholas in Keuerstadt was built in 1280. It is very lonely in the big forest between Dankoltsweiler and Ellenberg. On Jagst Zeller district, close to the neighboring Matzenbach (municipality Fichtenau ), the chapel is " Matzenbacher picture". It was completed in 1973.

Lakes

In the early 1960s the Fischbach and the Orrot reservoir were built to protect against flooding. These small lakes are the destination for walks and for swimming quite popular today.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Jagstzell is a railway station on the Upper Jagst web between Aalen (or Goldshöfe ) and Crailsheim. During the day, driving in two- hour intervals regional trains in both directions.

As part of the recovery package, the platforms have been fully refurbished to both tracks and brought to a length of 120 m in the summer of 2010. Bus shelters, signage and other platform equipment were adapted to the corporate identity of the Deutsche Bahn.

Most important road link is the federal highway 290 ( Tauberbischofsheim - Aalen ), which leads in a north-south direction through the village. The Federal Highway 7 is tangent to the municipality only their nearest connection points are in the north Dinkelsbühl / Fichtenau and south Ellwangen.

Education

In Jagstzell there is a primary and secondary school with Werkrealschule. Secondary schools are located in Ellwangen or in the more distant towns eels and Crailsheim.
