Marl Sly Dogs

The Jahnstadion in the Westphalian town of Marl is a football and athletics stadium.

The stadium was originally intended to hold a capacity of 35,000 spectators. In addition, a pylon -supported prestressed concrete construction ( 66.85 mx 10.10 m ) was designed as a roof for seat coverings and built. The height of the pylons is 31.77 meters.

History

  • A youth tournament from 14 to 16 August 1964 ( International)

The tournament was awarded to the opening of the stadium by the Association Board and the former sponsor Auguste Victoria mine ( mining company ). As a " patron " could get the famous " German Goalkeeper Bert Trautmann " Manchester City (Bernhard Trautmann ). As guests of honor, among others, Eusébio and Lev Ivanovich Yashin were present, which characterized the tournament winner with the trophy. It was attended, among others, the following teams in this tournament, Real Madrid, Red Star Belgrade, Steau Bucharest, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Sporting Lisbon, Sparta Prague and the A youth of TSV Marl Hüls. On 2 September 1984, the Pop Festival took place in Marl Jahnstadion. The headliner was the band The Cure.

The roof structure of the stands is dilapidated. The City of Marlborough will be invested any money in the maintenance of the stadium, as it plans to build flats on the site. So far, these plans have failed because the filling of the stadium oval is too expensive. The TSV Marl -Hüls, the venue, the stadium was for decades, has now moved to the sports complex " In Loekamp ".

Since August 24, 2008, the baseball team Marl Sly Dogs playing in the stadium. The club was founded in 1995 playing in the national league of the BSV NRW and was previously based in Marl- Polsum.
