Jakob Ceporin
Jacobus Ceporinus, short Ceporinus was the humanist name of Jacob Wiesendanger (* 1500 in Dinhard at Winterthur, † December 20, 1525 in Zurich ). He was the author of a famous short grammar of the Greek language and companion of Ulrich Zwingli.
After studies in Cologne and Vienna, and a stay of John Reuchlin at Ingolstadt Ceporinus possessed excellent knowledge of Greek and Hebrew language. 1522 he was in Zurich a first teaching job for Hebrew and Greek. He died only a few months after his appointment. Despite his short life he was able to publish several books:
Zwingli led his early death was mainly due to revision.
The name is derived from the Greek Ceporinus κηπωρός ( keporos " garden overseer, Wiesbaden, overseer ").
