Jakob von Uexkull

Carl Wolmar Jakob von Uexküll ( born August 19, 1944 in Uppsala ) is a Swedish- German Berufsphilatelist, writer, founder of the " Alternative Nobel Prize " ( Right Livelihood Award), initiator of the World Future Council ( WFC ), a co-founder of the alternative World Economic Forum (1984 ) and founder of the Estonian Renaissance Award ( 1993).

Life

Uexküll, Thure von Uexküll 's nephew and grandson of the Baltic German biologist Jakob Johann von Uexküll, is the son of the journalist Gösta von Uexküll and grew up in Hamburg. He has Swedish and German citizenship. Uexküll studied philosophy, politics and economics, and made 1966 his Master of Arts in Oxford.

Due to the increasingly urgent nascent ecological problems, he suggested the Nobel Foundation to introduce one or two new prices for this area. This was rejected. The Council identified through its network of scientists, parliamentarians and environmental organizations worldwide pioneering policy approaches and policy frameworks at international, national and regional levels. Jakob von Uexküll is founder and patron of other organizations as well as a lot of traveling speaker and organizer. On November 10, 2006 he was awarded in Vaduz ( Liechtenstein ) with the big Binding Award for nature and environmental protection. On 13 March 2008 he received the " White Hall" of the New Castle in Stuttgart the Erich Fromm Prize in 2008. 2009, he was honored with the Distinguished Service Cross 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
