Jamal Joseph

Jamal Joseph ( * ca 1953 Edward Joseph ) is an American screenwriter, director and film producer.

Life

Joseph grew up in the late 1960s in the Bronx as a teenager and joined the Black Panther Party. At the age of 16, he was the first time in court, but was acquitted of the charge of conspiracy. 1981, was sentenced to twelve years in prison for aiding and abetting an armed robbery on a cash in transit, in which two police officers and a guard were killed. During his detention, he finished his schooling and was released after five and a half years. In the 1990s, he first began to work as a short film director, then also wrote screenplays and worked from the 2000s, also a film producer. Since 1998 he is a professor at Columbia University.

For the music movie August Rush, he produced together with Charles Mack the title Raise It Up, which was nominated in 2008 for Best Song Oscar. In addition, he wrote and interpreted for the film the title Harlem Streetz.
