Jambyl Province

The area Zhambyl ( kasach. Жамбыл облысы / Zhambyl oblysy; Russian Жамбылская область / Schambylskaja oblast ) is one of 14 provinces of Kazakhstan, located in the south of the republic. The area is 144,300 square kilometers, the population of 1,071,645 (as of 2013). The proportion of urban population is (2002) 45.3 per cent, while the rural population at 54.7 percent.

In the 1999 census, the share of Kazakhs in the total population was 76.3 per cent. On the Russians account for 21.4 percent, German 1.4 percent, Ukrainians 0.5 percent and 0.4 percent Uzbeks.

Geography

The area Zhambyl located in the south of the country. Its southern border also forms the border with Kyrgyzstan. In the northeast, the area has a share of the Lake Balkhash. The distance from the field center Taras to the capital Astana is 1255 km.

Administrative divisions

The area is divided into 10 counties and the regional capital Taras.
