James Alan McPherson

James Alan McPherson ( born September 16, 1943 in Savanna, Georgia ) is an American short story writer and recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1973.

McPherson also won the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for his short story collection Elbow Room. His work has appeared in 27 magazines and seven short history collections. McPherson is now a professor of English at the University of Iowa.

In 1981 he was MacArthur Fellow.
