James B. Spencer

Bradley James Spencer ( born April 26, 1781 Salisbury, Connecticut, † March 26, 1848 in Fort Covington, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1837 and 1839 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Bradley Spencer was born during the Revolutionary War in Salisbury and grew up there. During this time he received a limited education. He moved to Franklin County, where he settled in Fort Covington. During the British - American War he raised from a company and served as a Captain in the 29th U.S. Infantry. In 1814 he was appointed local magistrate. He was 1828-1837 worked as guardianship and estate Richter ( surrogate ) in Franklin County. During this time he was appointed in 1829 to the Loan Commissioner. He sat in the years 1831 and 1832 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1836 for the 25th Congress of Spencer was in the 14th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Ransom H. Gillet on March 4, 1837. He retired after March 3, 1839, from from the Congress. On March 26, 1848, he died at Fort Covington and was then buried in the Old Cemetery.
