James Butler Hare

James Butler Hare ( born September 4, 1918 in Saluda, Saluda County, South Carolina, † July 16, 1966 in Columbia, South Carolina ) was an American politician. Between 1949 and 1951 he represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Hare was a son of Butler B. Hare (1875-1967), who had the State of South Carolina represented 1925-1947 twice in Congress. He attended the common schools and then to 1939 the Newberry College. By 1941 he was still a student at Erskine College. Between 1940 and 1946 he was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II. After a subsequent law studies at the University of South Carolina and its made ​​in 1947 admitted to the bar he began in Saluda his new profession to work. Later he became curator of the University of South Carolina.

Hare was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1948, he was as their candidate for the third constituency of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded William Jennings Bryan Dorn took on 3 January 1949. Since he was not nominated in 1950 by his party, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1951. Between 1951 and 1952, Hare was again active in the U.S. Navy. He then worked again as a lawyer in Saluda. James Hare died on July 16, 1966 in Columbia, and was buried in his home town of Saluda.
