James C. Healey

James Christopher Healey ( born December 24, 1909 in New York City; † 16 December 1981 in Southampton, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1956 and 1965 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Christopher Healey was born about five years before the outbreak of the First World War in the Bronx. He attended public schools in New York City. In 1933 he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Then he attended Fordham University. In 1936, he received his Bachelor of Laws from St. John's University Law School. He received in 1937 his license to practice law in New York. Between 1938 and 1940 he was Attorney for the New York State Labor Relations Board and 1940-1943 Deputy United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. During the Second World War, he served 1943-1946 as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. After that, he was 1946-1948 Deputy Corporation Counsel in New York City. Between 1948 and 1956 he held the post of Counsel of the Borough President of the Bronx. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

He was elected in a by-election in the 22nd electoral district of New York in the 84th Congress, there to fill the vacancy that was created by the resignation of Sidney A. Fine. His seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, he took up on February 7, 1956. In the congressional elections of 1956 he was elected to the 85th Congress. He was re-elected twice in a row. In 1962 he stood as a candidate in the 21st electoral district of New York for the 88th Congress. After a successful election, he stepped on 4 January 1963, the successor of Herbert Zelenko.
