James Duncan (athlete)

James Duncan ( James Henry "Jim" Duncan, born September 25, 1887 in New York City; † January 21, 1955 ) was an American discus thrower.

On 27 May 1912 he presented with 47,58 m on the first official world record.

He was therefore regarded as a favorite for the Olympic Games in Stockholm, which took place shortly thereafter. There, however, he had to deal with 42.28 m of the Finn Armas Taipale ( 45.21 m) and his compatriot Richard Byrd defeated ( 42.32 m) and took the bronze medal. In the two-handed discus throw Duncan finished fifth.
