James FitzGerald-Kenney

James Fitzgerald - Kenney (* January 1, 1878; † October 21, 1956 ) was an Irish politician of the Cumann na nGaedheal and Fine Gael.

Biography

After school he studied law and was after graduation worked as a lawyer. His national political career began as the candidate of the Cumann na nGaedheal with the first election for deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ), where until 1944 he represented the interests of the constituency of South Mayo after six subsequent re- elections. Since the election of 1937 he was a representative of the Fine Gael in the House.

From August to October 1927, he was except for a brief interruption Parliamentary Secretary at the Minister of Justice. Following, he was a Minister of Justice of 12 October 1927 to 9 March 1932, the Executive Council of the Irish Free State as a member.

After suffering a defeat at the polls in 1944, he resigned from the Dáil and retired from politics.
