James Hall III

James W. Hall (* circa 1959 ) is a former U.S. Army sergeant, who sold in the 1980's military secrets to East Germany and the Soviet Union.

Hall in 1975 from high school in Sharon Springs, New York State, and entered into the U.S. Army in September 1976. He worked from 1982 to 1985 in the central station Teufelsberg of telecommunications electronic reconnaissance by the U.S. against the GDR into West Berlin operates.

From the end of 1982 gave Hall (alias Paul ) paid to the East German spy, Hüseyin Yıldırım top secret documents. Later he had contact directly with Soviet agents. From 1985 to 1987 Hall was stationed at an office in Frankfurt, where intercepted messages were evaluated. He has passed on secret documents. In May 1987, he returned to further education in the United States back.

From a defector of the East German secret Hall was betrayed for money and arrested in the U.S. on 20 December 1988. Hall scored allegedly by the intelligence of the GDR and USSR during six years, a total of 300,000 USD for 30 to 60 deliveries. He was sentenced on 20 July 1989 to 40 years in prison and $ 50,000 fine. In September 2011 he was released from the military prison in Fort Leavenworth.

Almost all copied by him for the Stasi NSA files ( total of 13,088 pages) were returned on 24 July 1992 by order of the Interior Ministry of the Stasi Records Authority of the U.S. government - without the consent of the Parliamentary Control Panel, as the Stasi Records Act mandatory for such canceled without issuing dictates.
