James Jacks

James "Jim" R. Jack ( born December 29, 1947 † January 20, 2014 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American film producer.

Life

Jack studied at Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, and reached later at Cornell University's Master of Business Administration.

After his studies he worked as a financial analyst on Wall Street, before he tried his hand at a career as a screenwriter. After this failed, he was from the early 1980s as a production manager at Circle Films in Washington, DC, where he coordinated among other things, the hire of Ethan and Joel Coen's Blood Simple (1984) and as executive producer for the Coen film acted Arizona Junior ( 1987). He then went to Hollywood, where he served as vice -president of Production acted as vice -president of Acquisition and later at Universal Studios. At Universal, he oversaw among other things, the production of Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing ( 1989). After that he worked with Sean Daniel at Field of Dreams (1990). In 1992 he left Universal and founded by Daniel the independent production company Alphaville Films. Their first hit was the duo with the production of the John Woo action film Hard Target and the coming- of-age film Confusion - Summer of Freaked (both 1993). Village of the Damned and Mallrats (both 1995), however, brought with critics and the audience alike.

Jack and Daniel were then known primarily as a producer of the successful film series to The Mummy, which was created in 1999. 2004 Jack left Alphaville Films and devoted himself to his own projects.

Jack died on January 20, 2014 after a heart attack at the age of 66 years at his home in Los Angeles.
