James Massey

James Lee Massey ( born February 11, 1934 in Wauseon, Ohio, † June 16, 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark) was an information theorist and cryptographer. He was a professor at the ETH Zurich. His most notable work was the development of the Berlekamp -Massey algorithm, the design of the block encryption method IDEA ( with Xuejia Lai ), SAFER and the Massey- Omura cryptosystem ( with Jim K. Omura ).

In 1999 he received the Marconi Prize in 1992 and the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Award.
