James Taliaferro

James Piper Taliaferro ( born September 30, 1847 in Orange, Orange County, Virginia; † October 6, 1934 in Jacksonville, Florida ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of Florida in the U.S. Senate.

After completing his education, James Taliaferro joined the Confederate Army in 1864, for which he fought until the end of the Civil War. In 1866 he then moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked in the timber industry and other shops pursued. He made ​​his money in railway construction and later became president of the First National Bank of Tampa.

Talia Ferro's political career began in 1899 with his election to the Senate in Washington, where he served from April 20 of this year; to the original beginning of the term of office on March 4, the seat was initially remained vacant. After a re-election in 1904, he also appeared in 1910 again, but this time won a majority in the state Legislature of Florida, which at that time still chose the senators, and thus had on March 3, 1911 Congress eliminated. During his time in the Senate he was chairman of several committees.

As a result, James Taliaferro withdrew from politics. He worked as a businessman in 1920 and went into retirement.
