Jan Foltys

January Foltys ( born October 13, 1908 in Svinov, † March 11, 1952 in Ostrava ) was a Czechoslovakian chess player. In 1950, his FIDE awarded the title of International Master.

January Foltys was from the mid-1930s until his untimely death at the best chess players of Czechoslovakia. At the national championships, he was second in 1936, third in 1938, first in 1940, second in 1943 and 1946 third. He represented his country at the Chess Olympiads in Munich in 1936, Stockholm in 1937 and Buenos Aires 1939. Doing so, he achieved a result of 65.1 % ( 22, -6, = 25).

January Foltys qualified in Marianske Lazne in 1951 for the interzonal Saltsjöbaden 1952, but he died before the tournament starts from leukemia.
