Jan of Stobnica

Jan von Stobnica, and Jan de Stobnica, Ioannes Stobnicensis and Jan ze Stobnicy (* 1470 in Stobnica, † 1530 ) was a Polish geographer, astronomer, and philosopher ( Skotist ).

Jan von Stobnica was a professor at the Jagiellonian University of Krakow and the first rector of Lubrański Academy in Poznan. 1512 he was in the printing Unglers Florian in Krakow, the book Introductio in print Ptolomei Cosmographiam. It included the existing information about America as well as the maps of the continent, presumably based on the world map Waldseemüller of 1507. He also wrote textbooks in the fields of biology, metaphysics, grammar, and logic.
