Jane Williams

Jane Williams ( born Jane Cleveland, born January 21, 1798 in London, † November 8, 1884 in London) was the dedicatee of several poems by Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Jane originally came from wealthy, by the gambling addiction of the widowed mother but impoverished family. She grew up in England and India and married John Edward Johnson, a naval officer, but she left because of its brutality soon. She lived in the episode with Edward Ellerker Williams in England, Switzerland and Italy, and bore him two children. From the friendship of the couple with Percy and Mary Shelley, a deep but apparently remained platonic admiration for the poet, she developed after the accidental death of Shelley and Edward Williams Jane returned to England and married Thomas Jefferson Hogg, another friend of Shelley.
