Janet Kennedy

Lady Janet Douglas, Countess of Angus (c. 1483 † 1543) was a Scottish noblewoman and the mistress of King James IV

Biography

Janet was the eldest daughter of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy ( 1454-1509 ) and his wife Lady Elizabeth Seton ( 1451-1500 ). During her marriage to Sir Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus ( 1453-1513 ) was Lady Janet in 1498 the mistress of the king of Scotland James IV ( 1473-1513 ). From the union three sons were born. Only one son, James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray ( 1499-1544 ), reached adulthood.

For political reasons, married James IV in 1503 Princess Margaret Tudor ( 1489-1541 ), the daughter of the English King Henry VII, the sister of Henry VIII, despite his marriage he continued his relationship with Lady Janet.
