The Jannu (even Kumbhakarna ) is situated west of Kanchenjunga Mountain, by which it is connected by a long ridge. Nevertheless, the Jannu not count as a secondary summit. With a height of 7711 m, the Jannu is the 32th highest mountain on Earth. Among mountaineers, he is best known for his very demanding routes north and the extreme climatic conditions due to cold and storm.

The first ascent was held by Robert Paragot, Paul Kellar, René Desmaison and the Sherpa Gyalzen Mitchu and on 29 April in 1962 by Jean Ravier, Lionel Terray and the Sherpa Wangdi on 28 April 1962. They chose a route through the Yamatari glacier south of the mountain to a large plateau, called the throne. This is a glacier south of the summit. Routes on the north side

With up to 3000 meters of wall height, the north face of Jannu is one of the largest and most demanding mountaineering destinations of the world. Renowned mountaineer Erhard Loretan as failed on the wall.

  • Northwest Wall: The first route on the north side of Jannu opened a Japanese expedition in 1976 in the north-west wall.
