Janusz Zemke

Janusz Zemke ( born February 24, 1949 in Kowalewo Pomorskie) is a Polish politician, since 1989 Member of the Sejm in X. legislature (PRL ), as well as I, II, III. , IV, V and VI. Legislature (Third Republic ), former Secretary, Ministry of Defence, since 2009 Member of the European Parliament.

Curriculum vitae

He is a graduate of the IV General Fine Lyceum in Bydgoszcz. He earned a degree in the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Mikołaj Kopernik University in Toruń, after he received his Ph.D. in 1977 in Political Science at the College of Social Sciences of the Central Committee of the Polska Zjednoczona partia Robotnicza ( Polish United Workers' Party - PZPR ) in Warsaw. He is a lieutenant of the reserve.

He was from 1969 until the dissolution in 1990 a member of the PZPR, was among other things, First Secretary of the Voivodeship Committee in Bydgoszcz. In 1990 he joined in the Socjaldemokracja Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej ( Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland - SdRP ) -, and 1999 in Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej (SLD Democratic Left Alliance ). He sat in the State Executive Committee of the SdRP.

Since 1989 he was a deputy in the Sejm continuously. He was elected for the PZPR in 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2001 and 2005, he won the mandate for the SLD. In the years 2001 to 2005 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, he was with 42 347 votes for the seventh time deputy, this time from the list of Lewica i Demokraci ( Left and Democrats - LiD ) and for the electoral district of Bydgoszcz. He was chairman of the Commission for Defence and sits in the Commission on Intelligence.

On 22 April 2008 he became a member of the newly formed group Lewica.

In the European elections in 2009, he was elected to the European Parliament. This ended on 10 June 2009 its membership in the Sejm.
