Japan Meteorological Agency

The Japan Meteorological Agency ( JMA short, Japanese気 象 庁, Kisho -chō, German, Meteorological Authority ') is a government agency that is responsible as a central location in Japan for the collection of meteorological data. She gives out weather reports and weather forecasts. The Authority operates semi autonomously under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The prediction and early warning of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons and tsunamis is the responsibility of the Meteorological Authority.

She has in addition to its headquarters in Tokyo's Chiyoda ward, five major stations within Japan and is supported by four marine stations. A network of smaller meteorological observation stations form the basis for the collection of weather data. Also weather satellites are used.
