Japan women's national volleyball team

The Japanese national volleyball team of women is a selection of the best Japanese players, the Japan Volleyball Association represents in international tournaments and international matches.

History

World cup

The first participation in a World Volleyball Championship, the Japanese women of the Soviet Union in 1960 was defeated in the finals, but two years later they defeated the same opponent in the home and were first world champion. As hosts, they defended the title 1967. 1970 was the Soviet Union in the final successful, four years later won Japan again. 1978 subject to the Japanese women in the final against Cuba. After the results were worse. In 1982 it was still fourth, then there were two seventh and eighth places, even in Japan in 1998. In 2002, the Japanese women did not come on the 13th square. Olympic games

1964 in Tokyo, Japan became the first against the Soviet Union Olympic champion in volleyball. In the next few tournaments in 1968 and 1972, there were final defeats against the same opponent. For the Games in 1976 Japan took in the eternal duel for the second time gold. 1984 in Los Angeles, it was enough even to bronze, but 1988 ( fourth) and 1992 ( fifth), it gradually went down. The worst result there was in Atlanta in 1996. At the tournament in 2004, the Japanese women were fifth. The same result there was in Beijing in 2008 after losing in the quarterfinals to eventual winners Brazil. 2012 London won the Japanese women after a 3-1 victory over South Korea the bronze medal.

Asia Cup

1975 Japan was in the final against Asian champions South Korea first. 1979 subject to the Japanese women in the final against China. Four years later they brought against the same opponents their second title. 1987 China was again successful. After a third place in 1989, there were two more playoff defeats against the eternal rival. There followed three third and fourth place. 2003 Japan was not there for the only time. World Cup

It was followed by two fourth places. From 1991 to 2007, Japan was always there, but could not get through the fifth addition. 2011 there was again a fourth place for the Japanese women.

World Grand Prix

Japan began in 1993 as sixth in the World Grand Prix. Next year, the Japanese women were already fourth. After two tournaments worse they occupied in 1997 in their own country again fourth. Then there were two seventh and eighth place. 2001 and 2002, Japan was fifth, but 2003 already came off in the first round.
