Japantown

Japantown ( German: Japan City or Japanese city ) is a common name for a Japanese-American or Japanese- Canadian community in large cities. Japan Towns can be compared with Chinatowns in their construction.

Furthermore, Japan Towns are also called more often Little Tokyo, Nihonmachis or J- Towns.

USA

In the U.S. there are several cities in Japan Towns, one of the largest is that of Los Angeles (see: Little Tokyo). San Francisco also has a Japantown.

Canada

In Canada, the largest Japantown is located in Vancouver.

Brazil

Liberdade is a Japantown in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. Liberdade is the largest Japanese city outside Japan.

Germany

In Germany there is a Japantown in Dusseldorf. Almost one in five Japanese living in Germany west of the Rhine in Upper and Lower Kassel. The Düsseldorf Japantown is also colloquially known as Nippon on the Rhine and has about 6,000 inhabitants and over 400 Japanese companies.
