Jarok

Jarok ( until 1948 slovak " Ireg "; Hungarian Üreg ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 1891 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Nitra, a part of the Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the hill country Nitrianska pahorkatina (part of the Slovak Danube lowland ) kanál on Dlhý. Below the village extends a small water reservoir called Vodná nádrž Jarok. The floors are made ​​of fertile black earth. The center is located at an altitude of 151 m nm and is 12 kilometers away from Nitra.

History

Jarok was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zoborská documents as Erig writing and was at that time the Good Zoborská Abbey. After 1363 the diocese Neutra was the long-term owner. During the Turkish wars, the town was several times afflicted, such as in 1601, when he was burned. After World War II, large church land was parceled out partially and completely confiscated by the state in 1948.

In 1948, the place of national political reasons Jarok was ( the same time " gutter " or " small stream " means ) renamed. The old form of the name is preserved in IREG vernacular name until today.
