Jaroslav Mareš

Jaroslav Mares ( born December 28, 1937 in Brno) is a Czech writer and traveler.

He studied foreign trade at the University of Economics in Prague and went for his doctorate at one of the state Czechoslovak airline. For many years he worked as a director of the branch in Iran and later in Canada.

Mares visited a total of 92 states. His love of nature led him to remote regions. In northern Botswana, he discovered the biggest predatory beetles of the world, the Manticora imperator, which he described in 1976. He specialized in researching this beetle and later described three other subspecies.

He visited famous localities of dinosaurs, including Nemegt in Mongolia, Tendaguru in Tanzania, Red Deer, Alberta, localities in Utah, Colorado, Montana and Patagonia and still maintains contacts with paleontologists in the world. In 1978 he organized a trip to the border area between Brazil and Venezuela in the region of Curupira strains.
