Jaroslav Otevřel

Jaroslav Otevřel ( born September 16, 1968 in Zlín, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player. During his career he played for AC ZPS Zlín HC Dukla Trenčín and in the Czechoslovak first league, the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and Ässät Pori in the Finnish SM- liiga.

Career

Otevřel first played in his home in the Czechoslovak first league at AC ZPS Zlín 1987-1992. Interrupted were these five years only by a one-year commitment to HC Dukla Trenčín in the season 1989 / 90th During this time, the Czech was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1991 in the seventh round 133 out of the San Jose Sharks.

For the 1992/93 season Otevřel moved to North America and spent the following two seasons in the organization of the Sharks. Mainly he was at their farm team in the International Hockey League, the Kansas City Blades used. For the Sharks even he played only 16 games, but scoring seven points.

In summer 1994, the left winger joined the Finnish SM- liiga, where he played for Ässät Pori. In his second season with the team in 1995/96 to Otevřel seriously injured on February 11, 1996 game against his team JYP Jyväskylä. After a player of the opposing team slipped, the Czech could not avoid this and was so unhappy on the ice that he was injured in the neck. Since then, he is paralyzed from the waist down and had to retire from active competition.
