Jarszewko

Jarszewko ( German Jassow the lagoon ) is a village in the municipality Stepnica ( Stepenitz ) in Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Geographical location

Jarszewko located in Pomerania, about 14 km northeast of Stepnica, 150 km north-east of Berlin and 1.5 miles from the Szczecin Lagoon ( Zalew Szczeciński ) away. The village is surrounded by jungle Goleniowska ( Puszcza Goleniowska ).

The distance to the Szczecin - Goleniów airport is about 25 kilometers.

History

The first documentary mention of the place falls into the 1590. Jassow was created as a little village, but were formed out of three districts. The place belonged in the 18th century the Pomeranian noble family of Flemming, and he was administratively subordinated to the respective localities Piaski and Brzozowo. Over time, Jassow developed into a small scattered village. In Jassow was an agricultural large and part, and in 1870 was one of the corresponding village about 260 inhabitants. 1880 a windmill was built by the Dutch model.

Towards the end of World War II Jassow beginning in March 1945 was occupied by the Red Army. In the fighting the windmill was destroyed.

After the war Jassow was placed under Polish administration and renamed Jarszewko. The village has about 80 inhabitants.

The present building dates largely from the turn of the century. Today is tourism for the village of great importance, and it will be built reinforced cottages. West of Jassow, the Szczecin Lagoon, there is a beach, and the area is opened up to tourists with hiking and biking trails.
