Jarvis Cocker

Jarvis Branson Cocker ( born September 19, 1963 in Sheffield ) is a British musician. He is best known as the frontman of the band Pulp.

Career

Jarvis Cocker grew up with his sister Saskia up with his mother in Sheffield. The father played briefly in the band of also dating Joe Cocker Sheffield. After this engagement ended, the father left the family to go to Australia, where he passed himself off as the brother of Joe Cocker and a radio broadcast took over. The fact that Jarvis Cocker then grew up alone among women has greatly influenced him in his own words.

In the late 1970s founded Cocker with some friends the band Pulp. Initially, the cast changed frequently, rarely, the band played twice in exactly the same formation. After a few performances, including 1981 in the broadcast of the British radio presenter John Peel, Pulp, published in 1983 their first album " It", but without commercial success.

In the following years, Jarvis Cocker struck by with part-time jobs and the band played at irregular intervals and casts some concerts. On the second album " Freaks" 1986 Jarvis was the only remaining founding member of the band.

During the ceremony the BRIT Awards 1996 Cocker protested on the stage against the appearance of Michael Jackson. As Jackson sang the song Earth Song, Cocker entered the stage, walked to the middle and looked into the audience. The entire incident lasted only a minute. Several members of the security staff tried to get him off the stage, but did not succeed. After the show, Jarvis Cocker was arrested on charges of assault, even though he had touched during the entire action anyone. Michael Jackson's record label Epic Cocker attacked the next day to the public.

From the Greatest Hits album released 2002 Pulp are in a creative hiatus. Cocker moved with his wife Camille Bidault - Waddington ( since 19 July 2002) and their son to Paris. Published in 2003 under the pseudonym Cocker Darren Spooner an album with his new band Relaxed Muscle.

In the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Cocker plays the singer of the band appearing on the dance ball. The presented titles come from him and are included on the soundtrack album.

On 13 November 2006 Jarvis Cocker released his first solo album, " Jarvis " is simple. The first single was "Running the World". The album was produced by Sam Lockwood and John Watson, who also helped him in writing the lyrics.

Cocker occurs as the host of the show " Jarvis Cocker 's Sunday Service " on BBC 6.
