Jason Williams (basketball, born 1975)

Jason Chandler Williams ( born November 18, 1975 in Belle, Virginia ) is a retired American professional basketball player who was active in the NBA. His NBA career began in 1998. After ten years he gave in September 2008 surprisingly announced his retirement. On 19 August 2009 he still signed with the Orlando Magic for a year and then playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. On April 18, 2011 Williams announced his final resignation from professionallen basketball sport. The 1.85 meter tall Williams played on the position of point guard.

College

In his first season ( 1995-96 ) at the Marshall University reached an average of 13.4 ppg ( points per game ) and 6.4 apg ( assists per game ). In 1996, when his coach Billy Donovan moved to the University of Florida as head coach, Williams followed him. In his new team, he was immediately set as the starting point guard and reached in the 1997-98 season average of 17.1 ppg and 6.7 apg. On December 3, 1997 game against Duquesne, he presented with 17 assists on a university record. Still in derselbigen season he was thrown out of school. This was due to his ongoing drug escapades. Career

After being thrown out of the university, he opted for the NBA Draft to register 1998. He was drawn by the Sacramento Kings in 7th position in the Draft 1998. The Sacramento Kings had next to the rookie Williams also have other quality players in the team; Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Predrag Stojaković. Thus, the Kings were in this year to a playoff contender. In his first year in the NBA his jersey with the number 55 was in the top 5 of the best selling jerseys. Williams was also nominated for his performance in the first year as a pro in the NBA All - Rookie First Team.

During the 2000-2001 season he was suspended for the first five games of the NBA season because he did not participate in a set up by the League anti-drug program, although he was contractually obliged to do so.

2001 Williams was traded in exchange for Mike Bibby to the Memphis Grizzlies.
