Jasper Francis Cropsey
Jasper Francis Cropsey ( born February 18, 1823 in New York City; † April 23, 1900 ) was an American painter.
Life and work
Jasper Cropsey, who was educated as an architect, first made himself in the painting, then studied at the National Academy of Design. After traveling through Europe (1847-1849), including France, Italy and Switzerland he lived from 1855 for seven years in London. After his return to the United States Cropsey opened a studio in New York and devoted himself to landscape painting. Jasper Francis Cropsey was one of the most important representatives of the Hudson River School. His former home and studio, Ever Rest in Hastings-on- Hudson ( Westchester County), contains a large part of the work of Cropsey and now serves as a museum. Other works can be found among others in the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art
