Javad Nurbakhsh

Javad Nurbakhsh ( born December 10, 1926 in Kerman, Iran, † October 10, 2008 in Oxford, England) was an Iranian, Muslim mystics ( Sufis ) and a master of Nimatullahi Order.

Life

He was born in the Iranian city of Kerman. Later he attended the medical school at the University of Tehran and received his medical doctorate in 1952. From 1962, he completed graduate studies at the Sorbonne in Paris. He then returned to Tehran, where he finished his studies in psychiatry and later until his retirement in 1977 Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Tehran was.

Dr. Nurbakhsh was initiated at the age of 16 years in the Nimatullahi Order. At the age of 20 he was by his master, Munis'Ali Shah, appointed Sheikh ( spiritual leader ), and after the death of Munis, he was master of Nimatullahi Order. He was at that time 26 years old.

After his death, his son Alireza Nurbakhsh was appointed as the new Master of the Order.
