Javad Tabatabai

Javad Tabatabai (* 1945 in Tabriz ) is an Iranian philosopher and author.

Life and work

Tabatabai earned his doctorate in political philosophy at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon- Sorbonne with a thesis on Hegel. He was guest fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study Berlin and at Syracuse University. He has published several books on the history of political ideas in Europe and in Iran.

Tabatabai is Emeritus Professor and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Tehran.

In 1995 he was made a Knight of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques.
