Javier Culson

Javier Culson ( born July 25, 1984 in Ponce ) is a Puerto Rican track and field athlete. He won in 2009 the first Puerto Ricans a medal at World Championships in Athletics.

2006 Culson won in 49.71 seconds in the 400 - meter hurdles at the Ibero- American Championships in his hometown of Ponce. In 2007 he won the bronze medal in 49.35 seconds at the Universiade in Bangkok. Shortly after, he reached the semifinals at the 2007 World Championships. In 2008 he improved his personal best to 48.87 seconds. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, he retired again in the semifinals.

In July 2009 Culson improved during sports festival in Monaco the national record to 48.29 seconds. At the World Championships in Berlin, he reached the final with a third place in the semifinals behind the former world champions Kerron Clement and Félix Sánchez. In the final Culson increased to 48.09 seconds and won the silver medal behind Kerron Clement in 47.91 seconds. In the 2011 World Cup Culson could repeat his success and came to 48.44 seconds after David Greene to the finish. At the 2012 Olympics in London, he could not emphasize with his 3rd place title aspirations.

Culson has a competition weight of 79 kg at a height of 1.98 meters.
