Javier Villa

Javier Villa García ( born October 5, 1987, Colunga, Asturias ) is a Spanish racing driver. He was from 2006 to 2009 in the GP2 Series active. In 2011 he competed in the World Touring Car Championship ( WTCC).

Career

1998 Javier Villa began his motorsport career in karting, where he was active until he joined the Spanish Formula Junior in 2003. The following year, Villa raced in Spanish Formula 3 Championship for teams EV and elide and was eventually finished ninth in the overall standings. In 2005, Villa was active in the Spanish Formula 3 and drove for the first time for Racing Engineering. At the end of the season he finished fourth overall. In the Spanish Formula 3 Villa won a total of three times.

2006 Villa remained at Racing Engineering and launched for the first time in the GP2 series. As a teammate of Adam Carroll he did not score and finished 26th in the overall standings. In addition, Villa drove for his team some races the Spanish Formula 3 the following year Villa won in the GP2 Series in his first race in the sprint race at Magny Cours. In the rest of the season Villa decided the sprint race at the Nürburgring and the Hungaroring for themselves. At the end of the season, he finished with 42 points in sixth place in the overall standings. In 2008, drove Villa for Racing Engineering in GP2 series. The season was disappointing: while Villa in the season picking up just 8 points and finally 17 overall, was his team-mate Giorgio Pantano won the champion of the GP2 Series. After four years at Racing Engineering moved Villa for Super Nova Racing and started for his new team in both the GP2 Asia Series season 2008/2009, and in the 2009 GP2 Series season. After a good start to the season in Shanghai at the Villa was fourth of the main and third in the sprint race, he managed just another placement in the points. At the end of the season, he finished tenth in the standings. Villas teammate in the regular GP2 Series was Luca Filippi. The supernova pilot scored three podium finishes and was at the end of the season in tenth place overall.

For the second race weekend of the season 2009/2010 Villa returned to the GP2 Asia series and started the rest of the season for Arden International. With two third places for best results he finished the season fourth overall. Later in the year he went to only three races of the Australian Mini Challenge and finished 26th in the driver standings.

2011 Villa was awarded a contract with the Italian team Proteam Motorsport, for which he in the World Touring Car Championship ( WTCC) in a BMW 320 TC took. He scored a podium with a third place ranking and drove regularly in the points. As the best pilot of his team, he finished the season in twelfth place overall. 2012 Villa was first confirmed by Proteam Motorsport for the WTCC, a little later, however, announced that his compatriot Isaac Tutumlu gets his cockpit.
