Swift & Company was an American company based in Greeley, Colorado. The company was, according to the Forbes magazine 's 30 largest unlisted companies in the United States.

Swift & Company was one of the largest meat producer in the United States. The company was founded in 1855 by Gustavus Franklin Swift. For several decades, the company was formed with four other companies a powerful cartel Center in Chicago, which was known as the "Big Five " (see slaughterhouse # History ). Until early 2007, Swift & Company was owned by the US-based investment company HM Capital Partners of Dallas. The company was sold on 12 July 2007 at the Brazilian company JBS. Through the acquisition, the merged company JBS Swift Group rose to become the world's largest beef producer, which has in addition to locations in the United Staatenm 23 sites in Brazil and 5 sites in Argentina.

One of the greatest competitors the main agricultural company Cargill, Smithfield Packing Company and Tyson Foods included.

Employment scandal 2006

2006 six sites of the company in the United States were examined for identity theft and illegal employment of immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and other Latin American countries. A total of 1282 illegal activities were uncovered during the investigation.
