Jean Angelo

Jean Angelo (actually Jean Jacques Barthélémy; born May 17, 1875 in Paris, † November 26 according to other sources November 11, 1933 ) was a French actor, mainly of the silent era.

Life

In 1903 he started at the theater of Sarah Bernhardt to work and was from 1908 also worked in the film. He played in the so-called film d'Art The Assassination of the Duke of Guise (1908 ) and Queen Elizabeth (1912). The latter was a popular success in the United States. Among the most famous roles of Jean Angelo heard the Lieutenant's Morhange from L' Atlantide, which he embodied both in Jacques Feyders silent film from 1921 as well as in the French sound film version of Georg Wilhelm Pabst in 1933. Other highlights of his work are Nana (1926 ) by Jean Renoir and directed by Henri Fescourt the title role in the Franco-German co-production The Count of Monte Cristo (1928 ) based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas.
