Jean-Baptiste Barrière

Jean -Baptiste Barrière ( born May 2, 1707 Bordeaux, † June 6, 1747 in Paris) was a French cellist and composer.

Barrière was the most famous and virtuosic French cellist of his time. It was his perfected game brought in France, where until then the viola da gamba was predominant, the breakthrough for the cello. From 1731 he was for a salary of 450 livres member of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House in Paris. In order to perfect his game, he traveled in 1737 to Italy, where he had lessons with Francesco Alborea. After his return he gave two concerts at the Concert Spirituel who found honorable mention in the Mercure de France.

Works

Published six collections. In the second book, the third sentence of the fourth sonata for two cellos and continuo is advertised. The third book contains the second sonata a full Trio Sonata for Violin, Violoncello and Basso Continuo.
