Jean-Baptiste Cardonne

Jean -Baptiste Cardonne ( called Philibert; born June 26, 1730 in Versailles, † after August 1792) was a French composer, harpsichordist and singer.

Life and work

His second first name Philibert first appears in Fétis. However, the publications and manuscripts of his time wearing only the name M. Cardonne. His father was the first officer ( "premier commis " ) of the royal house. Jean -Baptiste Cardonne began his career as a royal page, and received his musical education by François Collin de Blamont. He was a child prodigy; the age of 13, he composed a motet for large choir, the. before King Louis XV was performed. More of his works appeared in the spiritual programs of the royal chapel at Versailles and in the concert. In 1745 he became a singer and harpsichordist member of the royal chapel, in the 1750s he sang in the choir of the theater of the Marquise de Pompadour. From 1768 he retired from his court office and then turned to the opera.
