Jean-Baptiste de Voglie

Jean -Baptiste de Voglie also Giovani Bentivoglio (* 1723, † October 1777 ) was a French engineer, bridge and road builders and encyclopedist.

Life and work

He came from a branch of the Bentivoglio family from Ferrara. In 1742 Jean de Voglie joined the Corps des Ponts et chaussées in France and was first as an engineer, more than Sous- Ingénieur Jean -Rodolphe Perronet in the Basse -Normandie employed in Alençon. In 1746 he worked for the district administration of Paris ( Généralité de Paris) and from 1751 he was ( en chef de la généralité Ingénieur de Tours ) was appointed chief engineer of the district administration of Tours. He took over the position of Mathieu Bayeux (* 1723) as Inspector General ( Inspector general) in 1770, where he among other things, was responsible for the completion of the bridge Pont Wilson in Tours. De Voglie also participated in Saumur in the construction of the bridge. This bears the name of his colleague Louis -Alexandre de Cessart ( 1719-1806 ).

He was considered the designated successor of the first engineer and director Jean -Rodolphe Perronet, but de Voglie died early. The architect François- Michel Lecreulx (1729-1812) was a pupil of Jean -Baptiste Voglie and Louis -Alexandre de Cessart.

De Voglie wrote an article about bridge construction ( Construction des ponts ) for the Encyclopédie of Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d' Alembert -Baptiste.
