Jean-Baptiste Édouard Bornet

Jean -Baptiste Édouard Bornet ( born September 2, 1828 in Guérigny, † December 18, 1911 in Paris) was a French botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Bornet ".

Life and work

Bornet was a member of the French Academy of Sciences. His works include Notes algologiques (1847-1880) and Études phycologiques ( 1878). He was, among other things of importance to the understanding of lichens and red algae. In 1882 he was president of the Botanical Society of France. In 1887 was elected a member of the Leopoldina. 1891 Linnean Medal of the Linnean Society of London awarded him. In 1910 he was admitted as a " Foreign Member " of the Royal Society.
