Jean-Baptiste Théodon

Jean -Baptiste Théodon (* 1645 in Vendrest, Seine- et- Marne, † 1713 in Paris) was a French sculptor of the Baroque.

Life

Théodon received his education at Versailles and at the Gobelins tapestry factory. Jean -Baptiste Colbert promoted him in 1675 to the Académie de France à Rome, where Théodons talent was noticed by church dignitaries. The artist remained nearly 30 years in Rome, working on the figural aspect of the Lateran Basilica and St. Peter's Basilica. After Théodons final return to France (1705 ), he worked on the design of Versailles, especially at the Royal Chapel, further also to that of the Invalides.
