Jean Bouillet

Jean Bouillet ( born May 14, 1690 in Servian, Région Languedoc -Roussillon, † August 13 1777 in Béziers ) was a French physician and encyclopedist.

Life and work

His father was Jean Bouillet sen.. (1654-1725), his mother Catherine de Conneau (1658-1722) The family also consisted of five sisters and Jean Bouillet, Jr., his sisters. , The Françoise (ca. 1684-1776 ), Catherine ( 1684-1780 ), Marie Anne (ca. 1695-1720 ), Marguerite (about 1695-1721 ) and Jeanne Bouillet (* 1700).

In 1707 he began studying medicine at Montpellier in Montpellier in 1711 and received his PhD degree, Docteur en médecine de la Faculté de Montpellier.

In 1715 he settled in Beziers, where he worked for his patients more than 60 years ( see also École de médecine de Montpellier).

On Saturday, August 22, 1722 Jean Bouillet married in Beziers his future wife Catherine Marsials (* 1700 ). The couple had two daughters Catherine Jacquette (* 1723), Gabrielle (ca. 1727-1789 ), and two sons, Jean- Henri- Nicolas ( 1729-1790 ) and Jean Louis Michel Bouillet (* 1732). Together with his son Jean -Henri -Nicolas Bouillet, also a physician and encyclopedist, they contributed with their articles for publication of the Encyclopédie.
