Jean Chacornac

Jean Chacornac ( born June 21, 1823 in Lyon, † September 23, 1873 in Lyon) was a French astronomer.

He worked at the observatories of Marseille and Paris in 1854.

He produced several high-quality star charts, including the Atlas ecliptique, and discovered six asteroids (see list of asteroids ) and the NGC object with the number 1988 in the constellation Taurus.

In honor of Chacornac the asteroid ( 1622) Chacornac and the moon crater Chacornac was named after him.
