Jean-Delphin Alard

Jean- Delphin Alard ( born March 8, 1815 in Bayonne, † February 22, 1888 in Paris) was a French violinist and composer.

Life

Jean- Delphin Alard baffled in his hometown audience, as he performed a violin concerto by Giovanni Battista Viotti 10 years. Alard studied from the age of 12 at François- Antoine Habeneck at the Paris Conservatory, where he received his diploma in just three years. When François -Joseph Fétis he took composition lessons. After Niccolò Paganini had heard the game of 16 -year-olds in a polonaise of Habeneck, he was so impressed that he remarked: " if so play the students how to then play the teacher." 1843 Alard succeeded Pierre Baillot at the Conservatoire, a post he retained until 1875. In 1850 he was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honour and in 1858 solo violinist in the Chapelle impériale Napoleon III. appointed. During his career, he founded several chamber music ensembles with whom he made the entire chamber music of Mozart and Beethoven known to the Parisian public.

As one of the most famous violinists of France at that time he was a much sought after teacher, his most important pupil was Pablo de Sarasate.

Alard was the son of the luthier Jean Baptiste Vuillaume and received this as a gift two violins, a Guarneri del Gesù from 1742 and a Stradivarius from 1715, both wearing today known as the " Alard ". He was also a competent advisor at Vuillaume's experiments to explore the ideal sound of the old Italian violins and copy.

Work

Jean- Delphin Alard, leaving a large number of works for violin, including numerous etudes, two violin concertos, three symphonies concertante for two violins and orchestra and numerous fantasies for violin and piano. A collection of 56 pieces that were published under the title Maitres Classiques du violon. He also created a progressive Violin School with 24 Caprices, which are all set in different keys. François -Joseph Fétis saw in him the most important representatives of the highly romantic French violin playing.
