Jean Delville

Jean Delville ( born January 19, 1867 in Leuven, † 1953 in Forest, near Brussels ) was a Belgian painter, occultist and Theosophist.

Life and work

Delville studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux -Arts (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in Brussels. At this academy as well as in Glasgow he then took over teaching activities. He spent considerable study in Paris, Rome and London.

Occultism coined from three directions the work of Delville. First acquaintance with Edouard Schuré to 1884. Secondly, he learned to 1887/88 know in Paris Joséphin Péladan, presented 1892-95 Images from where launched by Péladan Salon de la Rose Croix, but separated in 1895 from him again. And thirdly, the membership in the Theosophical Society Adyar ( Adyar -TG), which he joined in the late 1890s. In 1910 he became secretary of the Adyar TG for Belgium.
