Jean Denis, comte Lanjuinais

Jean -Denis Lanjuinais (* March 12, 1753 in Rennes ( department of Ille -et -Vilaine ), † January 13, 1827 in Paris) was a French politician during the French Revolution, the Consulate and the First Empire, and during the restoration of the Bourbons.

Biography

Jean -Denis Lanjuinais studied in Rennes rights, later taught canon law and served the provincial estates of Brittany as a legal adviser of good reputation.

The Third Estate his hometown chose Lanjuinais in the spring of 1789 deputies of the Estates General ( États généraux ). Together with Le Chapelier he initiated the foundation of the Breton Club, later the Jacobin Club emerged from the. In the Constituent Assembly Lanjuinais worked in the Church Committee, he influenced the reform of the judiciary and argued for the improvement of the living conditions of the non-white population in the colonies. In September 1792 Lanjuinais was chosen by his home department in the National Convention. He sided with the Girondins and approved in January 1793 for the postponement of the execution of Louis XVI. After the fall of the Girondins ( 31 May-2 June 1793) Lanjuinais was placed under house arrest. However, he escaped to Brittany, where he hid until the coup of 9 Thermidor II (27 July 1794).

After the 9th Thermidor Lanjuinais could take his seat in parliament again. He was appointed in April 1795 in the Penalty Commission, which drew up the Constitution of the Year III ( directorial of 1795). Because of his application by May 30, 1795 all the churches that have not been sold as national property, were reopened to worship. From 4 to June 19, 1795 Lanjuinais served as Chairman of the National Convention. End of October 1795 he was elected to the Council of Five Hundred. He was one of the moderate Republicans, and was in 1797 the Central School of Rennes before.

After the coup of 18 Brumaire (9 November 1799) Lanjuinais was appointed to the Senate. Napoleon I. raised him in 1808 in the rank of count. In the spring of 1814 Lanjuinais voted for the deposition of the Emperor and participated in the Charter Constitution with Nelle. He stood in front of 4 June to 13 July 1815, the Chamber of Representatives as president and joined Louis XVIII. over, the then appointed him a peer of France.
