Jean Goldkette

Jean Gold Chain ( born March 18, 1899 in Valenciennes, France, † March 24, 1962 in Santa Barbara, California ) was known as a jazz pianist and bandleader.

Life and work

Gold chain grew up in Greece and went to school in Russia before emigrating to the United States in 1911.

He led many jazz and dance bands, including his most famous band in the years 1924-1929 in Detroit. Between 1927 and 1929, he succeeded, starting with Irving Berlin's " ( You Forgot to) Remember", thirteen Hiterfolge in the Billboard Top 30 His last successful title was " Tip Toe Through the Tulips ", a song from the film Gold Diggers of Broadway. This band played - at different times - Bix Beiderbecke, Hoagy Carmichael, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Eddie Lang, Frankie Trumbauer, Joe Venuti, Pee Wee Hunt, Don Murray and many others.

1927 recruited Paul Whiteman from most of gold Kettes best band members. 1930 left Jean gold chain jazz to work as an agent and classical pianist. Gold chain initially helped in the organization of the McKinney 's Cotton Pickers and the Orange Blossoms, which became famous as the Casa Loma Orchestra. The mid-1930s he became insolvent. In 1939 he was the manager of the American Symphony Orchestra. 1945 and 1947 he led a band again. In 1955, he appeared as a concert pianist. In 1960, he attempted a comeback in jazz. In 1939 he married Lee McQuillen, with whom he lived in Detroit until 1961. The last years of his life were spent in California.
