Jean Guichard

Jean Guichard ( born April 28, 1952 in Paris ) is a French photographer who is well known for its lighthouse images.

Life

Guichard spent most of his school holidays with his grandparents in the Morbihan. Since he was fascinated by far away countries, he did his military service in the Navy. He came among others to Newfoundland and Greenland, where he earned his first Nikon, which he financed by selling the photos of the crew. He is a member of the " Amicale des Anciens Marins " ( companionship former sailors ).

He then joined as a photographer in the PR office of the Ministry of Economy and accompanied in this capacity, the then Prime Minister on his travels, which allowed him to gain experience in the field of photojournalism.

From 1977 to 1984 he worked as a photojournalist for the agency Sygma, for which he created many reports and a number of celebrities portraits, for example, by Eric Tabarly, Jacques Chirac, Jacques Delors, Marie -France Garaud, André Giraud, François Mitterrand, René Monory.

The versatile artist provided the Agency Reports (Africa, Argentina, Antarctica, Australia), covered sporting events, international news, war events and the like, and placed his works on the covers of prestigious press media, such as, among others, Le Figaro Magazine, Paris Match, VSD, Newsweek, Time, Colorful, Star.

In 1989, Jean Guichard founded with several colleagues, the agency GLMR that their activities ceased in 1995 after the economic crisis of the 1990s. In the late 1980s he also began to photograph lighthouses. With the seven 1989 in the Finistère department of Brittany in a storm with a wind force 10 photos taken by the French Lighthouse " Phare de la Jument " he became world-famous. They show how a high beating on the tower wave threatens to capture the lighthouse keeper Théodore Malgorne. Malgorne had kept the sound of Guichard's helicopter for the rescue helicopter and looked out the open door. He realized his mistake in time and withdrew before the shaft could beat up on him. The first book about lighthouses were Guichard 1992 out under the original title " Phares " in Ouest -France. It has been awarded several times. Will be followed by two photographic books about Egypt with the publisher Solar.

Guichard also remains committed to deal with the theme of lighthouses. Also known are his pictures of the Breton lighthouse Phare du Kéréon; they are often printed in a series of three images in the course of a wave beats up the lighthouse and almost envelops the entire length of the tower.
